Rihanna - California King Bed

This past Friday, Rihanna released her latest video for the single “California King Bed.”

“Chest to chest, nose to nose, palm to palm. We were always just that close. Wrist to wrist, toe to toe, lips that felt just like the inside of a rose. So, how come when I reach out my finger, it feels like more than distance between us,” sings Rihanna.

The video shows a more sensual side of Rihanna, best known for her dance beats and club hits, as she frolics on a beautiful California King bed and later in a bed of grass.

“In this California king bed, where ten thousand miles apart, I’ve been california wishing on these stars for your heart for me. My California king,” sings Rihanna in her new song.

The single comes from her new Loud album.

MTV reported that the singer posted a picture on Twitter earlier this week to tease fans. The picture was from the “California King Bed” shoot. The only visible part of Rihanna is her eyes. and she looks out into the camera, snuggled in the sheets in someone’s arms.

The song is a beautiful ballad for RiRi who is often times singing of lust- Her last hit was S&M- instead of love lost like “California King Bed.”

She sings, “Just when I felt like giving up on us you turned around and gave me one last touch. That made everything feel better and even then my eyes got wetter. So confused wanna ask you if you love me but I don’t wanna seem so weak maybe I’ve been California dreaming.”

This wasn’t the first time we’ve heard the song, Rihanna performed “California King Bed” at the ACM Awards.
After topping the charts with the naughty ‘S&M,’ Rihanna goes in a very different direction on ‘California King Bed,’ the latest single from her album ‘Loud.’

Opening with gentle acoustic strumming, ‘California King Bed’ tells the heart-wrenching story of the demise of a once-great relationship.

Electric guitars and drums add power as the chorus kicks in and Rihanna sings, “In this California king bed we’re ten thousand miles apart / I’ve been California wishing on these stars for your heart / For me, my California king.”

Though ‘California King Bed’ follows a routine pop ballad arrangement, the song is a nice change of pace for the Barbadian hitmaker. As much as we love Rihanna’s dance club hits, it’s refreshing to hear a song built around her impressive voice.

Can ‘California King Bed’ join ‘Only Girl (In the World), ‘What’s My Name’ and ‘S&M’ as the fourth No. 1 single from ‘Loud?’ Time will tell, but Rihanna is working her butt off to promote the song; she’s already performed it live on ‘American Idol‘ and at the Academy of Country Music Awards, where she dueted with Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles.
