Kanlungan - Noel Cabangon

McDonalds Philippines Commercial "First Love" Huling El Bimbo

This was a background music of McDonald's old TV commercial. It was sung by a Pilipino artist I admire, together with the rest of the artists who use their music in declaring love for the nation. I find Noel Cabangon as a nationalist artist. He was the composer of the song Tatsulok, popularized by another Pilipino artist Bamboo.

I tried to translate this song in English, in the nearest possible translation I can think of. It was a challenge to translate the word "panahon" because in tagalog (or Filipino dialect) the word either means "time" or "weather". I found the former to be most fitting translation for the song.

I was still living in Quezon city when I first saw this artist. I came to appraciate him more when our parish, Sacred Heart of Jesus, was able to invite Noel during a show or concert of all the church choirs. Two of my closests friends worked with the parish and that is where we go to during Sundays in Kamuning. My friend and I watched the concert, staged inside the church. The presentation was great!

Noel Cabangon sang this song live accompanied by his own guitar. It was really marvelous. There I learned that prior to being a popular singer, he used to be a parishoner of that church and he spent most of his childhood days in Kamuning area. Perhaps, he was even referring to Kamuning, as his "cradle" when he sang this song.
I am not really sure but one thing is guaranteed: he is a good artist and it's too hard not to admire him.

In 2004, one song did not only wet the nation's appetite for hamburgers, but also became the anthem for the new OPM acoustic movement. The song "Kanlungan" or more popularly known as "Pana-panahon", became an instant radio smash and was included in every "acoustic" compilation albums released during that year. However, unknown to a lot of people, the gentle voice behind the song is no flash in the pan. The singer-songwriter, Noel Cabangion, has been around since the mid-eighties. In his college days, Noel became part of Buklod or the Bukluran ng Mapagpalayang Musiko. It is through Buklod that Cabangon established loyal followers. His music speak of the many artistic, social and political advocacies he carries as a member of Akbayan, Amnesty International and Greenpeace. Noel doesn't just sing purely for entertainment. He believes that his talent is a tool to generate awareness on just about any issue, may it be political, environmental or social. Respected by his peers and revered by the new generation of rock musicians, Noel is recognized as one of the most influential figures in the Pinoy music scene, in fact one of his past hits with Buklod, "Tatsulok" was covered by Bamboo.

Now signed to Universal Records, Noel Cabangon takes the sonic road trip down memory lane, with his brand new album aptly titled "Byahe". The 15-track CD features Noel's heartfelt rendition of OPM classics from the seventies and eighties plus 3 original tracks, including his collaborations with Chito Miranda of Parokya Ni Edgar and Aia De Leon of Imago. Produced by Noel Cabangon and Ito Rapadas, "Byahe" will further establish Noel as a force to be reckoned with in the local music industry.

Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko - Noel Cabangon

Noel Cabangon, one of the Philippines' most respected singer-songwriters around today, with his single Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko. One of those bright and touching love songs from the Philippines, “Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko” (Even When My Hair Goes White) was composed by the Filipino composer Rey Valera in1977, and became part of what was called the Manila Sound genre. The genre was at its height in the early 1970s and got out of style in the early 80s, as it probably became an escape for Filipinos to forget the dark side of the Marcos regime.

Such songs show a glimpse of “damdaming Pilipino” as it also was so in the Kundiman genre. This particular rendition of the song was sung by Noel Cabangon.

Lead Me Lord by Gary Valenciano

Lord thank you for everything...forgive our sins, lead us always to the right path of life and don't ever leave us...I'd like to dedicate this song to my family, for my true and good friends of mine in and outside facebook...And lastly for my future and lifetime partner if God's will/grant me to have...someone who will love me not only in words but in actions too.True love is what I'm longing for...To all,you are my life and that's all that matter.

Lead me Lord, lead me by the hand
And make me face the rising sun
Comfort me through all the pain
That life may bring
There's no other hope
That I can lean upon
(Choro)
Lead me Lord
Lead me all my life
Walk by me, walk by me across
The lonely road that I may face
Take my arms and let your hand
Show me the way
Show the way to live inside your heart
All my days, all my life
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/g/gary_valenciano/lead_me_lord.html ]
Refrain:
You are my light
You're the lamp upon my feet
All the time my Lord
I need You there
You are my light
I (just) cannot live alone
Let me stay
By Your guiding love
All through my life
(Choro)
Lead me Lord
Lead me Lord
Even though at times
I'd rather go alone my way
Help me take the right direction
Take Your road
Lead me Lord
And never leave my side
All my days
All my life
You are my light
You're the lamp upon my feet
All the time my Lord
I need You there
You are my light
I (just) cannot live alone
Let me stay
By Your guiding love
All through my life
You are my light
You're the lamp upon my feet
All the time my Lord
I need You there
You are my light
I (just) cannot live alone
Let me stay
By Your guiding love
All through my life
All through my days
Lead me, Oh Lord
Lead me Lord

Yeng Constantino — Pag Ayaw Mo Na

Lyrics:

May ibang lungkot
Akong nakikita sa iyong mata
Di mo man sinsabi
May ibang galaw
Na di maipaliwanag ng isip ko
Kahit ano pang isipin

Sawa ka na yata
May iba na bang nakita
Isa lang naman ang aking hiling

Pag ayaw mo na
Sabihin mo lang
Di ko matitiis na
Ikaw pang mahirapan
Kase, pag ayaw mo na
Ako nang lilisan
Di rin magtatagal
Pag ayaw mo na nga

Mga titig mo
Wala na ang tamis tulad noon
Di ka na gaya ng dati
Wala na ang lambing
Ng pagtawag mo sa pangalan ko
Di kita masisisi

Sawa ka na yata
May iba na bang nakita
Isa lang naman ang aking hiling

Pag ayaw mo na
Sabihin mo lang
Di ko matitiis na
Ikaw pang mahirapan
Kase, pag ayaw mo na
Ako nang lilisan
Di rin magtatagal
Pag ayaw mo na nga

Tinatanong sa sarili
Nagkulang pa ba ako
Basta't ang alam ko ay
Ginawa kong lahat
Basta't para sayo

Pag ayaw mo na
Sabihin mo lang
Di ko matitiis na
Ikaw pang mahirapan
Kase, pag ayaw mo na
Ako nang lilisan
Di rin magtatagal

Pag ayaw mo na
Sabihin mo lang
Di ko matitiis na
Ikaw pang mahirapan
Kase, pag ayaw mo na
Ako nang lilisan
Di rin magtatagal
Pag ayaw mo na nga

Ayaw mo na
Ayaw mo na ba
Pag ayaw mo na
Ayaw mo na
Ayaw mo na ba
Ayaw mo na ba

Rachelle Ann Go's "Unbreakable" Album Launch Blog (Aug 13, 2011)

BY SOFIA MARIA REYES

It’s been a colourful seven-year journey in showbiz for Rachelle Ann Go. Through all her successes, she’s also had a share of intrigues, but nothing could break her down. And she shares the reason for it in her brand new album,Unbreakable.

Talking about her 14-track album, Rachelle Ann cannot hide her excitement.

“This album is quite special because for the first time, it includes my own composition,” she says.
That song is entitled ‘Whispered Fear’, which she wrote three years ago. She recalls that she was on a plane that time, feeling alone and fears were gnawing at her. But upon reflection, she realized that she only had to hold on to God to remain strong. Rachelle Ann, also known as “Shin”, hopes that people will be inspired by this song.

Other than ‘Whispered Fear’, the album has 10 OPM songs and three revivals namely, ‘Kung Alam Mo Lang’, ‘Sa Aking Puso’, originally sung by Ariel Rivera and ‘Part of Your World’ from the musical The Little Mermaid. Shin chooses ‘Lihim’, a song about secret love as her favorite. She commends Medwin of True Faith for giving the song a distinct music.

The Search For A Star champion wrote two songs in her new album: 'Whispered Fear' and 'Whoa-Man'

Her carrier single, ‘Masasabi Mo Ba’ by Vehnee Saturno now enjoys radio airtime. It’s a song for every romantic who longs for assurance that love is going to be forever. She’s especially proud of the fast track ‘Whoa Man’, a collaboration with good friends Joe Abuda and Artstrong Clarion. The three of them worked on it for only two days and the result is an empowering song for every woman.

A line in ‘Whoa Man’ goes “I’m here to conquer, it’s time to let go all the fears...” It perfectly speaks of how Rachelle Ann stands in her career at the moment.

The Search For A Star champion has just been chosen to play Arielle, the lead in the musical The Little Mermaid. Having been active in school plays before, and inspired by her favorite plays, Miss Saigon and West Side Story, it has always been a dream for her to do theatre as well. So when news about auditions for The Little Mermaidreached her, she didn’t pass.

We’ve been waiting for this new album to come out since last year. And now,Charice‘s 2nd International Album called “Infinity ∞” has finally been released first in Japan last Oct. 5th. It was a big day for all the Japanese Chasters who’ve been waiting for the album to come out. And now, it’s all over the stores and record bars in Japan. It was also released in iTunes Japan and immediately reached the top charts since the release date. The new album is more of Pop, R&B, Dance record than the first album she released last year. More of the current sound, very different and fresh!

Charice released her International Self- Titled Debut Album “Charice” last March 11, 2010 and was launched on The Oprah Winfrey Show‘s during the World’s Most Talented Kids episode. The album debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 200. That made Charice the firts Asian artist reach the Billboard Top 10 on the chart. It’s her most successful album to date. And now, people are hoping for the new album “Infinity ∞” to be more successful than the first one. Here’s the track-by-track review of her new album “Infinity“.

“Infinity ∞” Japan Edition consists of 11 tracks including the first released singles “Before It Explodes” and “Louder“. As for the iTunes Japan Edition, it has a new remix of “Pyramid” The Ruff Loaderz Remix which makes it as the 12th song only for the iTunes Japan Edition.

The album starts with her new hit single “Louder“. It was written by Daniel Jamas, Leah Haywood and Shelly Peiken. It’s a song that everyone can dance to. It’s Charice’s fastest song among all of her records. It’s also the theme song for the new season of Oprah’s “OWN”. I personally use it as my wake up song which makes my morning so pumped up! I suggest you make it as your alarm tone. Track 2 is called “New World“, theme song for the upcoming Square Enix Role Playing Game “Final Fantasy XIII-2“. It really sounds like a Japanese song, since it’s writer Koichi Tabo, is a Japanese. It’s a happy and very positive song, for me. Next track is “Bounce Back“, produced by DEEKAY. This production team also produced a song from Charice’s 2010 album and it’s called “Reset” which was co-written by Charice herself. “Bounce Back” is one of Charice’s favorite track off the new album. She performed the song for the first time during her 2day concert in Singapore for the F1 Singtel Grand Prix. Very powerful and fierce song I must say. Its lyrics says it all. “Far As The Sky” is Charice’s promotional single in Japan for the drama series, “Bull Doctor“. Charice dedicates this song to all her Japanese fans who experienced tragedies last March. It’s ballad song and I can see Japanese people really likes ballad’s. “Lost The Best Thing” is a heartbreak song. Its lyrics are strong and pretty much the same as “Bounce Back” as for its meaning. Track 6 is “Heartbreak Survivor” written by Rico Love, Wayne Wilkins and singer ‘JoJo’. This is one of my favorite songs from the album, aside from the fact that I can relate to it but the meaning of the song is very positive. JoJo contributed her vocals for the song. It would’ve been better if JoJo sang with Charice and not just a back vocals. “Before It Explodes” serves as Charice’s comeback single. It was written by Philip Lawrence, Ari Levine and fellow Filipino ‘Bruno Mars’. Great comeback single for Charice. “Lesson For Life” is one of Charice’s inspirational song from the new album written by Alex Francis, Dinavon Bythwood, Jordan Kyle, former American Idol judge ‘Kara DioGuadi’ and singer ‘Jason Derulo’. Very upbeat and current. One of my favorite as well. “Never Always” is written by Frankie Storm, Warren “Oak” Felder. This song sounds soooo R&B which makes it attractive and cool. You may not listen to it more often but this song sounds awesome when playing on repeat. Track 10 is called “One Day” written by Jason Ingram, Dan Muckala and ‘Nick Jonas’ of The Jonas Brothers. It was released as a promotional single as part of the ”ACUVUE® 1•DAY Contest” where fans will have a chance to meet and be part of the Music Video for the song. Very inspirational and upbeat. I must say, this song is really effective. I was inspired by this! And it sounds like a theme song for a movie. And last but not the least, “Lighthouse“. It was written by Mike Elizondo, Danielle Brisebois and singer-songwriter ‘Natasha Bedingfield’. The first time I heard the song, my first impression was “boring” and “so slow”. But while listening to the whole, I find it very nice and powerful along the way. NO DOUBT Charice liked this song, even fans liked it too! Charice fought for this song to be included on the album and it’s worth it!

Actually all the songs included in the album “Infinity” are single-ready. You can choose any song to be the next single. That’s how awesome it is! Been hearing positive feedback’s from fans and non-fans and no doubt, it reached #1 on iTunes Japan Pop Category and #2 overall in just 4 days! That’s how fast the album was downloaded. Much love from Japan!

Charice’s new album “Infinity” will be released this October here in Philippines but the release date is yet to be announced. Next week, Warner Music Philippines will announce the release date. The Album Launch is still on works. Under negotiation with Warner Music Philippines as to when the Album Launch will be. I hope everyone will join and have fun with us on that day. We’ll keep you posted for more updates about the Album Launch soon. (http://news.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Showbiz/Story/A1Story20111118-311294.html)
