Avril Lavigne‘s gorgeous “Wish You Were Here” has been released as the third single off her latest album Goodbye Lullaby (which I reviewed a few weeks ago and thought was pretty solid).
“Wish You Were Here” was actually my favourite track on the album too, so it’s great to see it released with a really nice clip that plays well against the wistful regret of the song, while still showing off a bit of Avril’s edgy personality.
The clip is really simple – blended shots of Avril sitting alone on the floor in some barren building as she holds a flower, plucking petals one moment then setting it alight (ha!) the next.
Close-ups of tears, running make-up, and holding her breath under bathwater pretty much round it all out. |
It’s a relatively uneventful clip, but it suits the song perfectly. Not every pop music video needs to be a CGI extravaganza, and this is a perfect example of “less is more”. |
Understated and classy stuff, for a really excellent ballad. So here it is…
